Reflection for Week 3, 23rd January 2013
Using rising intonation sounds as if you are more
interested. Intonation that is going down indicates rhetorical question. But this
is not necessarily true because sometimes it depends on the person’s expression
and body language.
An interesting English word for me today is ‘brother’. I just knew that it can have three different
meanings: it can be a flesh-and-blood family member; it can be used to call
your friends whom have no family relation with you; and if you say it as a
phrase “Oh brother!” it means you are bored and disappointed with what you see
or hear
I learn that in English, the last consonant is
important. You have to say the last consonant letter of a word clearly so that
people can understand what you mean. For example if you do not said the letter
“t” clearly in the word “feet”, it might sound like “feed” to someone else.
